The mission of the Chapter is to bring Gerontological Nursing to the forefront as a Specialist field.
The key objective is to improve nursing care of the elderly through talks, conferences, seminars, workshops, research activities and collaboration with other health care disciplines and agencies.
Objectives
- Generate interest and raise awareness amongst the nurses on issues relating to the elderly in Singapore.
- Enhance and promote the professional status of Gerontologial nursing.
- Disseminate issues relating to elderly people to nurses, other health care professionals and consumers of care.
- Improve the quality of elderly care through research-based practice.

Members agreed on the mission statement, logo and the objectives at the Inaugural meeting, which was held on 12/12/97. The audience included nurses from both institutions and non-institutions setting. Members from other health care disciplines were invited and some attended the meeting.
The Heart symbolizes LOVE.
Red colour of the heart radiates WARMTH.
Reflecting shadow of the heart signifies the SUPPORT for the elderly by various generations.
Candle with light signifies LIGHT illuminating the darkness that the many faces. The light also ERADICATES the fear of growing old.
The burning candle signifies ADDING LIFE to the elderly remaining years.
GNC stands for GERONTOLOGICAL NURSES CHAPTER.
